Decking Hardware

The fastener and accessory schedule that goes with the lumber, listed by code, size and box count.

Hidden fastening

The hidden biscuit system fastens above the deck without pre-drilling at 45 degrees: the screws are driven straight down at 90 degrees. The biscuit is made from a durable clear ultraviolet resistant material that can be painted, and it holds a 1/8 inch space between boards. Edge grooved decking suits the system directly, and slots can be cut into ungrooved boards with a biscuit joiner or router. Each carton contains 175 fasteners, 175 screws and one Torx driver bit.

Stainless trim head screws

The trim head screw is the least conspicuous face screw for Ipe, with the smallest head available in type 316 stainless at 3/16 inch, or 4.766 mm, and a T-10 drive recess. It also works in wood and plastic composites.

Stainless deck and wood screws

The deck screw pattern offers higher corrosion resistance and better holding power, and the star drive recess holds the insert bit more securely under torque than a square drive does. It suits pressure treated lumber and decking, cedar, redwood, composite decking and general wood to wood work, and it carries a type 17 self tapping point with a T-25 drive recess.

Accessories

Epoxy wood putty in a mahogany colour is faster and easier to work than wood plugs, and its colour matches dark oiled hardwoods; a 1/8 inch slice is kneaded to activate it and worked into the hole above the screw head. The carbide hardwood blade has a 5/8 inch arbor and 28 teeth, and its thin kerf and ribbed vents keep it cooler and sharper for longer.
